EXCURSIONS

KOKROBITE (CULTURAL AFTERNOON)
This tour first takes us to a fishing village at Kokrobite, 25km west of Accra, arriving there on time to observe the fishermen landing their catch. From here, we will drive to the Academy of African Music and Arts for lunch. Enjoy an afternoon of African dancing performed by a resident cultural troupe at this Africa style resort situated in a rustic enclave.

ABURI BOTANICAL GARDENS (Full Day)
We will depart Accra via the University of Ghana Campus to Abokobi, a historic settlement of the Basel Missionaries in the second half of the 19th century. Continue to Aburi, 40km north of Accra and enjoy a relaxing walk through the vast flora rich botanical gardens. Proceed to Larteh for a visit to the Akonedi Shrine (optional) where herbal medicine and psychic healing are practised by a traditional priest. Depart for Accra arriving in the evening.

NEW TAFO / BOTI FALLS(Full Day)
We leave Accra on a drive north to Tafo in the Eastern Region of Ghana. We will visit the Cocoa Research Institute at New Tafo where we will be conducted around by the authorities on a tour through a model cocoa farm. We depart Tafo for lunch at Koforidua. After lunch we will proceed to the Boti Falls, a seasonal waterfall in the forest reserve at Huhunya. There is an additional attraction of viewing the wonderful "Umbrella rock". We depart for Accra arriving late afternoon.


AKOSOMBO DAM (9 ½ Hours)
From Accra we will drive northeast to Akosombo, arriving in time for a conducted tour of the hydro-electric dam situated on the 400km long (North-South) Volta Lake, one of the largest man-made lakes in the world covering an area of 8502km2. We will have lunch at the Volta Hotel whilst we enjoy a panoramic view of the Dam and observe fishing activities on the lake.

DODI ISLAND CRUISE (8 ½ Hours Sunday Only)
We depart Accra early and travel northeast to Akosombo. We will drive past the industrialized town to Tema, the Kloyo Mountains and Shai Hills arriving at Akosombo to board the MV Dodi Princess for a cruise on the Volta Lake which is one of the greatest landmarks of Ghana. Lunch is served aboard with live band music. We will return to Akosombo Port late afternoon and continue to Accra arriving early evening.



MANET BEACH RESORT (8 Hours)

Situated 100km east of Accra is the Ada Volta Estuary (Azizanya), where the Volta Lake enters the sea. Festooned with clean beautiful beaches, the attraction offers an opportunity for boating, fishing, yatching, water skiing and other water sports. Return to Accra late afternoon.

KAKUM FOREST/ELMINA/CAPE COAST (Full Day)
We leave Accra early in the morning for our journey to the Central Region, viewing enroute splendid beaches lined with coconut trees. Our first stop will be to the Kakum National Park. The Park has a canopy walkway, the only one of its kind in Africa and fascinating herbal plants and trees. While hiking along the Kuntan Trail, we will learn about the various medicinal and practical uses of forest plant species. This tour through nature's pharmacy also passes through some beautiful areas of rainforest. If we are lucky, we may run into a troop of Campbell's monkeys of a pair of duikers. After lunch we will drive to the Elmina and Cape Coast Castles to see the slave dungeons. Return to Accra, arriving late afternoon.

WLI WATER FALLS (11 Hours)
From Accra, we will proceed on a scenic drive to Wli in the Volta region of Ghana. We will stop briefly at Dr. Noamesi's Herbal Treatment and Research Centre at Hohoe for a briefing about the centre's herbal preparations for baldness, diabetes, infertility etc. We will continue to Wli Water Falls, the highest fall in Ghana, for a refreshing afternoon in this green and serene environment. Return to Accra late afternoon.
